5th Grade Camp
Every October, 5th grade students at Barnard Elementary travel to Camp Copneconic in Fenton, Michigan for our annual 5th grade trip. While at camp, students focus on the connection between the trilogy of nature, ourselves, and others. Counselors, teachers, Athens student-chaperones and 5th graders participate in team building activities, zip lining, mountain biking, arts and crafts, high-ropes challenge courses, and night-time camp fire and theater activities. Many of these activities are "challenge by choice," inviting students to challenge themselves at their own personal level. Students work together and see each other in a different light than they are used to seeing while collaborating in a classroom setting. While meaningful relationships begin building on day 1 in 5th Grade at Barnard, the bonds that last a life time and set the tone for our 5th grade family are sewn during this three-day adventure.
