The Troy School District Nutrition Services, contracted through Chartwells, provides students with delicious, high quality, nutrient-rich meals to support learning. Educating palates, inspiring culinary curiosity and nourishing the health of the community through school meals is our priority.

Breakfast is served at all elementary and preschools, and is available every school day, including half days until the first bell.

A full student lunch consists of 5 components; Protein, Grain, Vegetable, Fruit and a choice of Milk. Milk choice include 1% White and 1% Chocolate. * Menu subject to change.

UPDATE: OCTOBER 03, 2025

We want to share some good news following our last update. A state budget has now been approved by both the Michigan House and Senate, and it includes free meals for all students. The bill is now headed to the Governor for her signature.

Student lunch accounts will be credited, and you will not see new charges for meals that are covered under the free meal (breakfast and lunch) program by the State of Michigan.

We will let you know once these updates have been completed. Thank you for your patience and for your support of the Troy School District.

We are hosting our 3rd Annual Cook Off on Thursday, April 23rd at Athens High School.

SUBMISSIONS PERIOD

The Cook Off applications are due by February 9th.

Contestants will be announced by February 13th

HOW TO ENTER

Fill out and return the registration form during the submission period and return it to Nicole Gervais at ngervais@troy.k12.mi.us or turn it in to your

school’s kitchen staff. Copies are available in each school’s kitchen and on the TSD Food Service Department website.

WHAT IS THE DISCOVERY KITCHEN COOK OFF?

This is a Middle School Student competition.
Registration is free.
Each team must submit one recipe based on their favorite cultural dish.
Teams will be limited to 3-4 students per group.
Only 8 teams will be selected to compete. .
Each team will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to prepare.
Each team will be provided with the necessary ingredients and tools to prepare and serve their dish.
The participant must maintain health standards when handling food.
Participants will be judged on taste, visual appearance, teamwork and following instructions.
There will be awards for first & second place.
The decision of the judges is final.

Parent FAQ How Do I Upload Funds to my Student’s Account?

You may either set up an account at MySchoolBucks (https://www.myschoolbucks.com/) to deposit funds electronically OR
You can also send your child with cash or check in an envelope. The fund will then be deposited to your student’s account on the cash register.Please besuretowriteyourchild’s full name and grade on the envelope OR

How Does My Child Order Lunch?

Your Elementary Student will order their daily lunch at the beginning of class, when attendance is taken.
Please be sure to review the menu with your child before school.
We offer a meat and vegetarian option each day.
If your child requires Halal options, please call the Food Service Office at 248-823-5089.

Does Your Child Have Any Food Allergies That Need Accommodation?

If your child has a major food allergy (example: soy, dairy, gluten) and requires menu accommodation, please call the Food Service Office at 248-823-5089 or email ngervais@troy.k12.mi.us for more information.
All menu accommodations must be accompanied with a note from your child’s physician OR with a 504 Plan and/or IEP which highlights your child’s allergy.

For more information please call the Food & Nutrition Services Office at 248-823-5089. Applications are available in your School’s Front Office, at the Food & Nutrition Services Office or on the TSD Website.

Troy Schools Wellness Committee is made up of eighteen members including, board members, school administrators, an assistant superintendent, athletic director, principals, teachers, food service staff, and parents. Our committee meets quarterly throughout the year to discuss various ideas to improve the health and well-being of our students and staff.

Wellness Policy (2000.073-AR)

Within its Policy 2000.07, Health and Safety, the Board of Education has addressed student wellness. The Policy includes mention of proper nutrition and nutrition education, physical education and the importance of regular physical activity. The purpose of this Regulation is to implement the Wellness Policy.

Advisory Committee:

A committee will be established by the Superintendent to consider nutrition and physical activity matters for the School District. Responsibilities of the committee may include the following:

Implementation of district nutrition and physical activity standards;
Integration of nutrition and physical activity in the overall curriculum;
Assurance that staff professional development includes nutrition and physical activity issues;
Assurance that students receive nutrition education and engage in vigorous physical activity.

The committee will develop a report for the Superintendent that includes the following information:

Monthly district menus and meal counts;
Listing of all a la carte, vending, and competitive foods sold by school food service;
Listing of all other sales of foods throughout the district, including vending machines, school stores, culinary and special education programs, in-school and in-class fundraiser, etc.; and a
Listing of physical activity programs and opportunities for students throughout the year.

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Due to the budget recommendations proposed by Governor Whitmer, the District will again be providing both breakfast and lunch meals to all students without cost to families. However, we are still required to provide and maintain Free and Reduced Lunch Applications , as submitted. A la carte items will be available to purchase if there are funds in the student’s account. The Food Service Department is using MySchoolBucks for all food service purchases.

Families are encouraged to continue to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal/Summer EBT/Educational Benefit Application online. (A new application is required at the beginning of each school year.) Your application ensures that the Troy School District will continue to receive state and federal funding for education. Without this information, Troy Schools could lose important state funding for our programs that our students are entitled to. All information submitted is strictly confidential.

To be considered for other discounts and benefits within Troy School District, fill out the Sharing Info with Other Programs form, which allows the district to confidentially share your information to benefit from the following programs:

Pandemic-EBT
Pay to Participate (athletics and clubs)
Annual iPad Insurance
Food Support Programs (weekend backpacks, holiday meals, etc.)
Field Trip Support Programs (reduced rates/scholarships for field trips)
Programs that provide School Supplies and/or assist with School Fees (filled backpacks and supplies from requested supply list, testing fees, financial support for tutoring/summer programs)
Programs that provide Holiday Support (meals, holiday gifts, opportunity for children to shop for gifts at no cost)
